Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why the heck am I writing about a classic that you’ve seen quite a few times? Well, I’ve got a couple of reasons.

Number One, when that Prometheus trailer came out it really got me jonesing to watch the origin content of what this movie is going to be like. Some people are saying this will be a direct prequel to Alien, some say it’s taking place in the same universe, and some say it has nothing to do with Alien at all. What I do know is that the same spacecrafts are in both films and the deliberate title sequence copy in the Prometheus trailer tells me they are connected.

Number Two, I bought this bad-boy on blu-ray for 13 buckaroos. It is incredible. To see how a classic, like this one, holds to the test of time is awesome. The clarity is unbelievable and the sound effects are top notch. My only gripe is the dialogue sounded a little pitchy, but whatevs.

I hate to sound like an old man, but they just don’t make sci-fi horror movies like this anymore. I really can’t think of a movie from the last five years that I know will be an instant classic…(Sunshine, maybe? No.) It was a great movie that I will probably watch a couple of more times before Prometheus comes out this summer.

Beeteedubs, I’ve never really thought of Sigourney Weaver as sexy at all, but those last scenes before she has that final sequence with the Alien… boy oh boy, she was mighty sexy in those tiny underwears.

I had the opportunity to take a really good hard look at the Sci-Fi movies I haven’t seen yet. And I found this little gem that made me smile from ear to ear.

It’s called Journey to the Seventh Planet. Written and Directed by Sid Pink. This is a story of a group of UN Astronauts who go on a voyage to Uranus to find new life-forms in our galaxy. Once they are in orbit of Uranus they are paralyzed by some kind of ‘being’ that reads their thoughts, what they like and what they dislike. Once they awaken they have no idea how long they’ve been passed out or how long they’ve been floating around the planets orbit. Once they land they discover that everything seems very familiar. As if someone is controlling what they see. They find a force-field that is blocking them from really seeing what the real planet is like. This ‘being’ uses desirable women from these men’s past to halt them from their exploration. But they are smart and avoid temptations and figure out that there’s this large brain looking being controlling everything and they must destroy it to be able to leave the planet. Hahaha, doesn’t this movie sound great? I don’t want to go to anymore detail, its worth a watch and only clocks in at 77 minutes.

This is definitely one of those ‘it’s so bad it’s good’ type of movies. I swear this had to be on Mystery Science Theater. Half the movie is not in focus, the acting is terrible, this is a movie made in Denmark so the overdubbing is awful, and the special effects are laughable. But that is all okay in my book. Really made the movie enjoyable.

The spacesuits though, were really awesome. Blue with yellow helmets seemed really original to me. The helmets had these antennas so it made it look functional. They had these guns that were more like white-lghtning flame throwers. They were really skinny, and sounded like they didn’t pack a punch, but they got the job done. Oh, and I love how everything in the spaceship was analog. Love that, especially because this movie took place in the future…2001. I think they spent most of the budget on this crazy reptilian rodent with one eye. Some scenes from that sequence were really well done.

So watch this movie if you can. Great watch and available on Netflix on demand. Here is the trailer for your viewing pleasure:

I’ve been giving a good long look at the New Thundercats series on Cartoon Network lately. I’m on the fence if I like it or not. So, I thought it best for me to try and explain the storyline here to see if it brings out any clarity on the subject. It’s tough when you want to like something because it jerks at one of your young heart notes, but this show is a clean wipe of anything from the old storylines. Think of it of kind of an alternate universe. Please note that there is a bunch of spoilers in this so if you really want to watch it and be surprised do not read forward.

The show begins in some crazy planet. Maybe it’s called, Third Earth, I don’t know I forget. But, you have this kingdom of Thundera. That’s where all the cats live. It’s a awesome walled-in private peaceful-with-their-own-kind type of place. I say that because they quickly point out that the Lizard people live outside the walls of Thundera. They are the enemies of the Cats. But because the Cats are so strong and powerful they were able to drive the Lizards out of the area forcing them to live in less fertile grounds. So the cats live peacefully in their private community with all the best soils to grow and live a prosperous lives without anyone going outside these walls.

Now you have this dude Lionel. He is the prince of the ThunderCats. And, he has an older brother too, Tigra. But I guess in this world Cats can breed Tigers and Lions or whatever without questioning how that works. Anyways, Tigra is the older brother but because he’s a tiger and not a lion he’s not the heir to the empire of Thundera, Lionel is. And Lionel will inherit the Sword of Omens. This sword is bad-ass and wield’s great power to the person who is destined to lead the ThunderCats. Of course, Lionel is that guy, but the problem is that he still has a lot to learn. And it seems with every episode Lionel learns something about life and learns to control the sword more and more.

Now, Lionel is into this thing called, Technology. It amazes him, but in Thundera they mock it like it’s junk. Scraps that people collect from outside the walls. The fascination benefits him later in the first episode. You quickly realize that although tech is reffered too as junk or scraps to the Cats the Lizards are masters of it and the only way they can match up against their nemesis is to use Technology against them.

Long story short, the Lizards pull a Troy and got into Thundera and destroyed the place with heavy mechs and artillery. They had little resistance from swords, staffs, and arrows. They killed Lionel’s father, who was voiced by the original dude who voiced Lionel in the original series, and only a few survived. Lionel is left with a mission to find the Book of Omens and figure out a way to defeat the evil and sinister Mumra dude.

Mumra is a whole other story. This guy is an old looking lizard that has quite the history with the Thundercats. They even hint in later episodes that at one point the Cats and Lizards were allies trying to defeat something larger than the both of them. Anyways, the Sword of Omens is powered by this crystal that Mumra thinks rightfully belongs to him. I have no idea if it really does belong to him, but so far the Cats have been really harsh with the Lizards, kinda makes you think twice about who really is the bad guys or the good guys. Mumra is set on trying to retrieve the stone that is embedded in the sword and he’s trying to track down Lionel for it.

The journey continues with small tales that help Lionel grow into a larger wiser character, hopefully they actually show him mature, kinda like how Luke changed it he final chapter of the Star Wars saga. He’s aided by his older brother, Tigra. He has a bad-ass whip can disappear and seems better at everything compared to Lionel. Also accompanying them is Cheetarah. She’s is a super fast cheetah girl with a staff. She’s part of this Cleric that is kinda like the special-forces-swat-team who protect Thundera. She’s the last of her kind. Panthro is an old man who is a beast. He was a general in Thundera. He’s the muscle of the group. And then there’s the two kids. I forget their names, but they are thieves…probably homeless kittens. They provide comic relief and do the stupid things that get the gang in trouble.

I guess you could say that I like this series. After typing this I guess you could say it’s fresh in the ole noggin and kind of a refreshing story that I haven’t really seen since they originally came out with the Clone Wars animated series.

There are not so many movies out there that tickle my fancy as much as Brazil has. This movie has it all for me…british humor, science fiction, great music, and the tale of man vs. the system. I had watched this movie for the first time about 10 years ago. I’d always been interested in the cover that had the dude’s head exploding like a nuke. Now that I saw HBO was playing it in HD I had to instantly record it and watch it again.

Sam Lowry is a harried technocrat in a futuristic society that is needlessly convoluted and inefficient. He dreams of a life where he can fly away from technology and overpowering bureaucracy, and spend eternity with the woman of his dreams. While trying to rectify the wrongful arrest of one Harry Buttle, Lowry meets the woman he is always chasing in his dreams, Jill Layton. Meanwhile, the bureaucracy has fingered him responsible for a rash of terrorist bombings, and both Sam and Jill’s lives are put in danger. – IMDB

This movie really holds up really well as far as production values. The humor and story are still relevant. I highly recommend this movie.

The iPad has been a real trendsetter when it comes down to magazine publishing in the digital age. And, for the first time I have begun to dabble in these experiences. The mag that caught my attention is the Atomix Magazine App.

It’s the first video game magazine for the iPad. It’s a mixture of video and text articles, reviews and opinions. The guys behind the magazine have worked on great prodctions like The 1up Show and Co-op. Creatively, I feel it’s done really well. The UI is really easy to use and there wasn’t much of a learning curve. Swipe left to right to go to each page. Up and down to read the articles. You flip the ipad to the landscape orientation to see large pics of the subject you are reading.

Right now, each monthly issue will set you back 99¢. They will figure out a subscription model soon, but the price is perfect. You just can’t say no for that price and for the content you get, it’s a steal.

The download for the issue I bought (#2) was a whopping 680 mb. Which is big, I know, but you get the convenience of having the videos embedded so that you can play the video articles locally without being at a wifi hotspot or 3G enabled.

So if you like video games and have an iPad, this is the app for you. If you like video games and don’t have an ipad, buy one.

Did you also know that each baseball is rubbed with this special mud only found in a hidden spot in New Jersey?. It’s called Lena Blackburne Baseball Rubbing Mud. Each team rubs them down at their own discretion. They’ve been using the stuff for a really long time. For some reason this seemed to be the best solution

Baseball is an amazing sport and it’s history and traditions just add icing to the cake.

Just want to let you know that this whole album is great. Haven’t heard new stuff from them in a long while and glad that when it did come out that it rocks! The Strokes have always been one of those peripheral bands that I don’t pay too much attention to, but when I do listen to them I get really pumped.

Never met a Dunkel I didn’t like. To be honest, the Dunkel is something I always feel skeptical about but when I try them, then, I somehow remember why I like them. I guess I am skeptical of the word Dunkel. There’s nothing smooth about it. But Harpoon’s version is really smooth. Seems to be packed with flavor during your first drinks and has a nice smooth finish.

It’s really good. Opens up your eyes about the politics of shelf space in America when it comes to beer. It also talked about this caffiene/beer more often than I would’ve liked. I could care less for that type of beer, but I also saw that they needed a case study to show what the struggles are to get a beer into the market.

But what this movie made me wanna do is really explore more beers that are out there. I’ve had the benefit of going to some awesome beer establishments in my day. I’m no Beer Retard, but this movie has inspired me. I may blog from time to time about some of the beers I can get my hands on that are sold in the various supermarkets in the Sticks of New Hampshire.
