I’ve been giving a good long look at the New Thundercats series on Cartoon Network lately. I’m on the fence if I like it or not. So, I thought it best for me to try and explain the storyline here to see if it brings out any clarity on the subject. It’s tough when you want to like something because it jerks at one of your young heart notes, but this show is a clean wipe of anything from the old storylines. Think of it of kind of an alternate universe. Please note that there is a bunch of spoilers in this so if you really want to watch it and be surprised do not read forward.

Thursday October 9th, 2008 10:24 the clone wars

I had the chance to sit down and watch a couple of episodes of the new The Clone Wars series on Cartoon Network. Now, I did have a chance to watch the animated movie that came out a little while ago with my buddy perpetualmemoryloss. We both thought it was so so, but we had an open mind. This was the introduction to the TV series that was going to air sometime soon. So now that it has aired, I have to say I’ve really liked this series so far. I only saw 2 episodes, but the attention to detail is awesome. It uses everything the animated movie had, introduces new characters, new ships, and all that geeky stuff. The stories are neat little snippets of battles the Republic had to go through. Claiming territories and air space in different galaxies before the evil Count Dukoo gets a hold of them.

The first episode I saw was Ambush. It focused on Master Yoda going to visit a planet to see if they can negotiate a plan to share air space and utilize the planets resources for the ongoing war. Obviously he was ambushed by the Ventress and made a deal with her. If he defeats her droid army, she would leave the planet alone. Yoda had 3 clone amy guys with him and he acted like the cooky old yoda from Empire. I loved how they mixed that roll with the bad-ass Yoda who ran around lobbing heads off of the droids. It was great, and the story was fun.

The second episode was called Rising Malevolence. It introduces a new weapon that the droid army created. It’s this huge ion cannon that immobilizes starfleets. It follows a rescue mission Anakin partakes with his padawan to save peeps from the ravage of this cannon. It also follows the people that were still alive in pods floating around in the wreckage in space. What I thought was so compelling was that they bring up the Clone’s feelings on being clones. One clone told a Jedi who was with them that they were never going to be saved because they are only clones and are meant to be disposable. I really like this string of drama. I wonder how much more on this topic will be explained throughout the series.

Nonetheless, its a great series and I am really excited to watch all these shows.
