iPhone 3G

There has been a lot of talk and chatter of the new iPhone and it’s lack to hold a phone call. Message boards all over are complaining about this and Apple and AT&T are staying mum about the situation. I personally havent felt the real magnitude of this epidemic. I know at the ballgame this week at US Cellular field I could not get my phone to load a web page even though I had full bars and 3G strength. It was odd, but I just blamed it on the fact that I was at a baseball game and there were probably 15,000 other people using the phone at the same time.

My own brother though, who lives in Las Vegas, has been having a lot of issues of dropped calls. Dropped calls that would have never happened on his old Samsung cell phone. News.com wants to know your story. Some are thinking that Apple’s secrecy of product development is to blame.

We will not know the truth until Apple and AT&T come up with a solution to this mess. I personally think that the AT&T networks have just been overflooded with so many new iPhones that it’s having a hard time handling all that bandwidth. But what do I know? It’s just a hunch. Hopefully action will be taken and it will only be a software update.

Monday August 11th, 2008 19:06 baseball, baseball, and more baseball

This all started on Friday. I had the last of my Starting 9 ticket pack (it’s a pack of 4 tickets for 9 select games at Wrigley). The last game was the beginning of the Cardinal versus Cubs series. It was really exciting to get a chance to go to this game. The crowd was about 60% Cub fans 40% Card fans. It’s the midwest so this rivalry is kinda friendly, but it dates back to the 1800s. It was Joey, Ed, Roger and I. It was loads of fun. It was Joey’s idea to invite Roger, who is, in my book, the proto-typical Chicago Sports fan. He’s like the guys in the SNL spoofs about Da Bears, Da Bulls and Mike Ditka and stuff. He’s got white hair and an amazing white moustache. He was buying us all kinds of beer and making weird comments like “He’s so big he could eat a whole refrigerator covered with molasses!” Oh Roger, you funny guy, haha. Well, the game went well. It was even at 2-2 with all the runs coming off of 2 solo dingers from ex-Cardinal Jim Edmonds. But good old Hank White (Henry Blanco) hit a walk off single to score in the game winning run in the 11th. It was very exciting and a great start to the weekend series.

Then there was Saturday’s game. My in-laws were in town to hang out and spend some time with us and they got us all tickets to go see game two. I have great in-laws. So I showed them all the good things about baseball at Wrigley. They visited Murphy’s Bleachers, I took them to my favorite Taco Shop, told them about the flags and the “Hey Hey” on the foul polls. We drank lots of Old Style and watched Big Z give up the most homers in his whole career. He let 4 go out of the park and added one of his own when he hit a homer himself. It was a bad game for the Cubbies. They lost 12 – 3. Plus, there was this weird cardinal fan who kept on wanting to switch hats with me every time a home run was hit. Is this some kind of weird St. Louis tradition? I have no idea. The game was hard for me to watch. I didn’t want my family to get the impression that the Cubs weren’t that good of a team. Cause they are. They have the best record in the NL. They just had a bad day, but I think they understood that.

Then, on sunday it was off to the south side of town. We watched the White Sox versus the Red Sox. It was also Nick Swisher bobble head day. It was pleasant surprise to get that little guy. The seats we had were super close thanks to my in-laws. Did I mention that I have great in-laws? It’s too bad that the Red Sox lost, but I found out that US Cellular Park is a really nice park and I’m getting accustomed to going there and really enjoying myself. Not that I’m a White Sox fan, cause that will never happen, but its great to watch a game there. They do everything that a modern park should do and I respect that.

It was a great weekend for baseball in the city of Chicago. I had the great pleasure watching as much as I could this weekend. Great teams were in town and the city was alive with a lot of people wearing their favorite teams proudly. I even saw a few people with cubs hats and red sox shirts and vice versa. Haha, it was great.

Friday June 27th, 2008 19:10 crosstown classic – a sad day

Today was the beginning of the series at US Cellular Field. Much like the Cubs, the White Sox play much better at home. They proved that by romping them 11-4. I couldn’t even watch the game it disgusted me so bad. I had actually not known what time the game had started since my hangover from New Orleans hadn’t left yet. I turned it on to notice Demp walked the bases loaded for Nick Swisher. Then, I just heard the hit. I knew it was gone. A grand salami put the game out of reach to make it 8-0. Demp had only pitched 2 full innings and had to be taken out of the game. I turned off the TV. I didn’t need the negativity to swirl around in my fragile mind. Tomorrow is a new day.
